The Good Side of 2020

Looking back, the year 2020 could be thought of as the year for showing the world, in broad strokes, the need for thinking more about others, as evidenced by the pandemic, major elections, acts of social injustice, and growing socioeconomic disparities — a momentum that took root in 2017 with the #MeToo movement — and continues in the new year.

Though much of what has transpired seems to point to things going from bad to worse, another perspective is the old shaking out in order to make room for and usher in the new — respect, justice, equality, integrity, and the end of the abuse of power. When you look beyond the events, in my view, a call for love.

Our health has taken a hit. Not just because a dangerous virus has been circulating in the world, but because we’ve been saddled with unprecedented stress. This is not to be taken lightly. At the start of 2020 many people already were struggling in their personal lives. I hope you’re taking good care of yourself.

Though difficult times still lie ahead, I think we can also draw on 2020 to show us the good in the world. Goodness that has always been there but hasn’t always had a stage. I don’t know about you, but what has carried me are stories of kind and caring, ordinary, every-day people — true heroes.

As we embark on the new year, I’d like to close by saying, stay safe and well. Here’s to a bright 2021. Keep love in your heart. Wishing you peace, prosperity, and good health.
