A Tribute to Terry Kath

one of the most underrated musicians, terry kath. he had true heart and soul. he played on the level of jimi hendrix; supposedly, hendrix said that he played better than him. watching terry kath play, you’d see his guitar subsumed in his massive frame, as if it were his shirt or one of his appendages, music pouring out of him with unbridled joy and agility. he had a soulful voice like ray charles, wrote thoughtful, heartfelt lyrics. he was deep and somehow knew that he would die young. which came to pass when one evening he was playing russian roulette, thought the gun was empty, and accidentally shot himself. it happened just before he was getting ready to start his own rock band with just guitars, bass, and drums. he was very excited about it. he left us when he was on the precipice of realizing his full potential. you wonder why it happened. there’s no telling what he could’ve created, how he could’ve further developed 70s rock music. terry kath was a real stand out, an original. one of my greatest musical inspirations.

His daughter made a documentary on him:
